Belgium receives 1st F-35 fighters

Belgium has officially received its first F-35 fighter jets, marking the first introduction of a new combat aircraft type in nearly 50 years. Belgian pilots flew the jets from the United States to Florennes Air Base, where the arrival was celebrated as a major milestone for the country’s defence and NATO integration.

The fifth-generation F-35 brings advanced capabilities that will enhance Belgium’s ability to operate seamlessly with other NATO air forces, boosting collective readiness and interoperability. Belgian pilots trained in the U.S. alongside other NATO partners, preparing to conduct joint missions with the aircraft.

The NATO video highlights the historic delivery, featuring footage of the first three F-35s landing in Belgium and interviews with the Belgian Air Chief and an F-35 pilot reflecting on the significance of the milestone.
